A quiet piano record, an Elton John co-sign, and two years off the spotlight in between.


Two years is a long time to stay off a stage you've clearly earned. Humble the Great, the Kent-born, London-built producer, multi-instrumentalist and part-time actor, spent that stretch working on everyone's records but his own. That changes now. 'left you' is his first release of the year, and it isn't a re-entrance so much as an exhale: raw piano, a little Americana folded into London soul, a vocal that carves gracefully into the melody as he works through a doomed relationship with a warmth that's easy to mistake for simplicity, until you notice how carefully it's built.

"I write 'left you' from the perspective of somebody reflecting on a relationship after a breakup. Going over moments of toxicity during that time and realising they probably should have ended it sooner." Humble the Great

That's the whole record in one sentence: less a breakup song than the conversation you have with yourself after one, replayed on a loop until it finally makes sense. In the visualiser, that plays out almost literally, a lone silhouette against the sea.

Who he is, for anyone catching up

His last outing under his own name was 2024's 'i don't mind floating', a self-produced record released via Dave's Neighbourhood Recordings and the one that first put him on people's radars properly. Since then, he's spent most of his time on other people's records instead of his own: executive producing Amie Blu's entire project, writing and producing for Kamal and Cat Burns, and still finding time to act on the side. Picking a lane was never really the plan.

The co-sign

Somewhere in the middle of all that, Elton John found him.

That's not the kind of line an artist gets by accident, and it tracks with what's followed: a sold-out debut UK/EU tour, standout sets at Glastonbury, Latitude and Pitchfork Paris, and a US support tour with Greek. All him.
